Modern Vespa Keys.

When your Vespa was new, it came with a BROWN "MASTER" KEY, a BLUE "SLAVE" KEY and a CODE CARD. Here in the USA, we were instructed by the dealership to discard the CODE CARD as it's absolutely useless. The code means nothing to any American Vespa Dealer or locksmith. It basically gives false hope to the Vespa owner that keys can be made from the code. In the USA, keys CANNOT be made from the code card.

MODERN Vespa keys are MICRO-CHIPPED. The BROWN key is needed to program any future BLUE keys you might buy. IF YOU LOSE your BLUE key you can get a DUPLICATE made from your existing BROWN key. When you program the new BLUE key, your old BLUE key will NOT BE ABLE TO START THE SCOOTER UNLESS IT IS PROGRAMMED ALONG WITH THE NEW BLUE KEY. So, if you happen to find your old BLUE key, you'll have to REPROGRAM it ALONG WITH THE BLUE key you had made to replace it.

IF YOU LOSE your BROWN key, you will NOT BE ABLE TO PROGRAM DUPLICATE BLUE keys. IF YOU LOSE ALL OF YOUR KEYS, you will need new- LOCKS, KEYS & CDI (on-board computer). THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE! As in upwards of $400.

IF YOU LOSE ALL OF YOUR KEYS and the steering is LOCKED, you can add the price of a tow and an additional 3 hours of labor to the bill.

Finally, just to make things more interesting... if you do not have your BROWN key (it's lost or you bought your Vespa used and the owner never gave you the BROWN key) but STILL HAVE THE BLUE key, a duplicate can still be made for you. It's roughly $150 as it requires a special key blank and a very expensive machine to duplicate from a BLUE key. I know what you're thinking and I agree, $150 is a lot of money but... it's a lot less expensive than having to have the CDI replaced.

DO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT A BIG FAVOR! Please get a SECOND BLUE "SLAVE" key made TODAY as you just might LOSE YOUR KEYS TONIGHT! It shouldn't cost more than $75. I know what you're thinking. Keep in mind these keys are MICRO-CHIPPED, the key needs to be cut and the key needs to be programmed. It all adds up but spending a little now will save you a LOT later.
