Resistência 6 horas Leiria

Como é sabido de todos vocês este fim de semana passado realizou-se a 2ª Prova de resistência Vespa, inicialmente seriam 6 horas as voltas na pista de karting dos Milagres em Leiria mas devido ao facto de estar muito bom tempo passou a ser uma bela prova de 8 horas.
Esta prova contou com 26 equipas divididas em duas Classes a 1 com 12 equipas e a 2 com 14 equipas, em que a participei na equipa D’ASCANIO com o nº 7 integrada na classe 2 composta por Samuel Santos mecânico de serviço da PBS, Nuno Mesquita, Abilio Pinto, Jorge Rocha, Henrique Sá e José Pinto Barbosa.
Feitas as verificações técnicas e treinos cronometrados lá se iniciou a prova em que partimos do 15º lugar da grelha e após algumas voltas lá conseguimos chegar ao 8º lugar da geral e até mesmo ao 6º por algumas voltas, mas infelizmente passadas umas 5 horas de prova a nossa vespa começou a dar problemas que fomos tentando solucionar volta após volta mas com insucesso tenta-mos de tudo um pouco desde mudar velas, bobines, pratos eléctricos, giglers e nada feitos sempre com a Vespa andar a 45% da sua potência tendo sido frustrante ver certos motores de tirar agua a conseguirem passar por nós e sem nada poderemos fazer ….
Em suma com tanta desmotivação chegou-se mesmo a pensar em desistir mas não fomos ate ao fim e perdemos o nosso 2º lugar na classe quando tínhamos 3 voltas de avanço do 3º classificado que por sua vez terminou a prova em 2º com 23 voltas a mais que nós e ficamos com o 6º lugar da classe e o 13º da geral com 334 voltas ao circuito.

Novas Matriculas

Matriculas em Acrílico

Decreto de lei nº 106/2006, estas são as novas matrículas para motos e motorizadas, 14 cm de altura por 22 cm de largura em que as letras e números inseridos nas mesmas têm de ter obrigatoriamente 5,5 cm. Comparando com as antigas que tinham 11,5 cm de altura e 17 cm de largura estas novas são ligeiramente maiores.
Segundo o decreto em questão diz que todas as motas após o ano 2006 deverá ter esta nova matricula e que também se aplica as mesmas mas em amarelo para as motorizadas.

Convivio Resistencia Vespa 8 Horas - Leiria

O Convívio Vespa - 6 horas de Resistência 2007 (que passaram a 8 horas, tal era a fome de andar as voltas até ficar zonzo!), que se realizou no Kartódromo de Leiria, foi um enorme sucesso, tal com já tinha sido a edição do ano passado. O Vespa Gang também marcou presença, o ambiente esteve óptimo, entre as 26 equipas que participaram. Houve desportivismo na pista e fora dela. O tempo ajudou, sol que deu para o primeiro bronze tomatada do ano. Pena foi o nosso companheiro David Testa que teve um acidente em pista com alguma gravidade. Mas já se encontra em Lisboa a recuperar. As melhoras para ti.
De resto, depois das voltas e mais voltas na pista, um merecido jantar bem regado, ali no centro de Leiria e entrega de prémios. Depois seguiu-se a noite do gang que contou com a presença dos scooterboys e scootergirls mais aguerridos. Pretty in Pink para acabar um excelente dia em beleza. E uma certeza que dias como este fortalecem a familia vespista. Criando laços de amizade entre todos. Como diria esse sábio, Dom Bob; a vespa faz amigos... Obrigado a todos pelo apoio e pelo ambiente fantástico que se viveu na cidade do Lis.

Paint: Color Approval

On March 15, 2007 Lisa (my wife and owner of this VSC) went in to K&K Auto Body & Paint in Enola, PA to approve the color. K&K is an easy and good shop to work with. They have painted 20 or so scoots. Lisa's SS180 will be painted Jaguar British Racing Green, which has a blue tint to it as opposed to the yellow tint used in the Truimph British Racing Green. Lisa took the glove box outside under the natural light and approved the color. The bike will be done very soon, says Karl at K&K.

'Clubbed' to feature 'Shameless' actor
The early 80s British 2 Tone scene is set to be immortalised in a new film.

'Clubbed' is set to star 'Shameless' actress Maxine Peake, and will be directed by 'Taxi!' director Neil Thompson. 'Shameless' creator Paul Abbott is the executive producer of the film.

The movie will be set in Coventry, the home of the sharp-suited, ska-influenced scene of 2 Tone, which saw bands like The Specials, The Selecter and The Beat rising to prominence. The scene influenced the sound of bands like The Ordinary Boys and The Enemy.

The plotline involves a factory worker on the verge of a nervous breakdown who finds his life changed following his involvement with a group of club doormen.

The film will be scored by M-People's Paul Heard, and will feature a diverse variety of 80s ska, Northern Soul and R&B tracks.

The movie is set to be released in early 2008.

"Factory Girl" é o filme que o gang espera impacientemente que chegue aqui ao burgo.
Pode até nem ser nada de especial, mas é sobre aquela que foi um dos ícones dos sessentas; Edie Sedgwick,
uma vez chamada na época de "as mais belas pernas de Nova Iorque".
Edie nasceu na solarega California mas foi na Big Apple que ficou conhecida por ser actriz de filmes "underground"
e por ser uma figura pública. E tornou-se uma "superstar". Uma super estrela? Pois é, eram assim que eram designadas
algumas raparigas e rapazes do séquito real do rei da arte pop Andy Warhol. Ela conheceu Andy em 1965 e começou
a frequentar a sua "factory", um enorme e antigo armazém que era o atelier de toda a arte e loucura de Warhol e amigos.
Lá Andy produzia os seus quadros, fotografava, falava ao telefone, os Velvet Underground ensaiaram durante uns tempos, etc.
E lá fazia os seus filmes assumidamente alternativos em que os actores eram os habitantes/visitas do local.
Edie fez vários, e foi uma das maiores superstars, o filme "Kitchen" foi dedicado a ela por Warhol. É um daqueles em que
podemos ver as suas belas pernas. De uma beleza tipica da época Edie era magra e levemente andrógina (isto talvez por
ter copiado a peruca do Warhol, tamanha devoção por ele). A sua beleza não passou incólume a outra visita da "fabrica"
criativa, Bob Dylan, outro ícone da época. Tiveram um romance e reza a lenda que algumas músicas do genial "Blonde On Blonde"
de 1966 foram inspiradas nela. A relação acabou tumultuada.
Mas a vida de Edie nessa altura já era um tumulto de drogas, e foram elas que contribuiram para a sua morte em 1971.
Com 28 anos.
A beleza e a criatividade nessa década de sessenta muitas vezes caminhava de mãos dadas com um anjo negro.
Foi assim com Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin...e Edie.
Guardemos dela apenas as memórias bonitas; A loucura de viver e "as mais belas pernas de Nova Iorque".

Passeio de Vespa até à Foia

Foi no passado dia 11 que se realizou mais um passeio até à “Serra da Estrela” do Algarve o alto da Foia o ponto mais alto do Algarve que se situa mais ao menos a 1000 metros acima do nível do mar.
Este passeio iniciou-se em Quarteira pelas 11 horas de onde partiram 4 vespas com 5 amigos em cima, as famosas foram a 150 Sprint do Raul, a PX125E da Maggy a T5 com a Judite e a Troféu 75 comigo. Em direcção a Armação de Pêra por Albufeira houve uma pequena paragem em Vale Parra (Galé) para tomar um café com o Nuno que recuperou recentemente a sua Vespa P125X de 1979 onde troca-mos uns dedos de conversa e travou-se conhecimento para futuros passeios em conjunto com este novo companheiro.
Chegando a Armação de Pêra lá encontramos o Nelson (Pika) com a sua Vespa 125 GTR que já esperava a algum tempo para

se almoçar …. Durante a espera da comida mais dois amigos se juntaram o casal “Poli” que não vieram de vespa mas sim de bicicleta pois andam a treinar para o campeonato de BTT casal de malucos chegaram já com uma média de 80 km feitos por montes e vales.
Com o almoço terminado lá partimos para a Foia e os Polis continuaram com mais uns 40 km de bike e nós a curtir pelo caminho lá se foram tirando uma fotos e feito um vídeo em andamento …. Uma pequena volta de 150 km num belo dia de Inverno cheio de sol que mais parecia verão.

Rolar por ai...mas nunca ao Domingo!

Lentamente o bom tempo começa a surgir. Já cheira a Primavera. As temperaturas andam pelos 17 ou 20º, o vento sopra educadamente. Apesar de hoje, termos voltado as nuvens, o próximo fim-de-semana vai estar igualmente bom para Vespar. E que saudades tenho de passar um dia inteiro a rolar com as nossas Vespas. Aquela cerimónia de acordar de manhã, olhar pela janela, ver o sol a convidar-nos, a tirar a Vespa da garagem, ir a bomba mais próxima e atestar o depósito. Chegar ao local combinado, reencontrar os amigos, também eles havidos de fazer estrada na maioria das vezes sem um local destinado, apenas o prazer de ir... de "vespar" por ai. Que prazer...
Este fim-de-semana, o gang reuniu-se num churrasco igualmente bem passado. O Manel das Vespas fez anos e reuniu alguns amigos, o passa-a-palavra funcionou na base do sms apenas na sexta feira a noite. Como podem ver coisa combinada ad-hoc. Como eu gosto. Mas sábado a tarde no local combinado, o mesmo de algumas semanas atrás, estavamos no Parque ar e sobre rodas ali em Monsanto junto ao skate park. Foi o local escolhido e que pode tornar-se um dos poisos habituais da malta. Uma bela tarde. Houve também uns membros mais afoitos que não dispensaram o dia de praia e lá foram estrear o calção de banho com tendência Verão '07. Não perguntem as cores da moda deste ano. Depois do bbq do Manel que teve honra de bolo de anos com uma moto e tudo, outro cromo tb fazia anos, o nheca man, Tunes. E lá fomos, para a mais famosa cave de Entrecampos para mais um alegre convívio. De festa em festa, lá fomos nós. Que chatice! Que canseira...
No dia seguinte, ainda tentei ligar a alguns vespistas mas nada. E lá fui eu, dar uma volta até a Ericeira, tendo como companhia o Charly na sua P altamente renovada e bastante Racer. O rapaz vive nas redondezas e já tem a sua P quase afinada para a expedição ao maior meeting scooterista da Europa que acontece na Ilha de Wight em Agosto próximo.
Pausa para um café na praia da Foz do Lisandro. Cheia de gente stressada e pequenada a brincar na areia.
Muito trânsito domingueiro, aquele passeio dos tristes que gostam de ver a praia de dentro do carro.
E ainda tive tempo para levar com um carro em cima, um senhor lembrou-se de virar de direcção, não assinalando a mudança de direcção a esquerda. Valeu-me que eu ia devagar e não houve problema maior. Um sustozinho. Apenas uma riscadela feita pela maneta do travão da frente na carrinha, que pertencia a uma empresa conhecida de elevadores.
Esta mania de andar com o "carro de empresa" ao fim de semana só mesmo os tugas campeões do poupanço!
Apenas um susto e a perna com um pequeno arranhão. Nada que já não esteja habituado. Condutores que travam em plena via, para melhor visualisar a placa de direcção ou moradias a venda... Quem vem atrás que se lixe!
Podes apanhar de tudo, na estrada, com os condutores domigueiros. Mas o melhor ainda são as cuspidelas, maços de tabaco ou cigarros acesos. Mas já fui alvo de garrafas de água vazia e até fraldas para bebés... Que perícia daquela mamã orgulhosa que consegue mudar a fralda do rebento em pleno andamento?! Para ajudar a compor o cenário idílico, temos de contar igualmente com os motards domigueiros. Essa fauna igualmente maravilhosa e imaginativa. Que tem apetência para ultrapassar vespas em plena ultrapassagem e outros feitos qual Mad Max-lá-do-bairro. Uma verdadeira batalha para mostrar que a minha moto tem mais cilindros que a tua Vespa e impressionar a namorada que vai em pánico no banco de trás a rezar para que "a corrida" acabe bem.
E ia-me esquecendo de contar outro episódio simpático que me aconteceu. O Charly e eu tinhamos parado para apertar o escape da P dele que tinha saltado. Festa no Scandy, finalmente o relatorio do arbitro...

Pois é, esta segunda festa no Scandy Bar ainda foi mais "bombante" que a primeira.
E atenção que a primeira já é mitica. Esta segunda foi a confirmação de que as festas do Vespa Gang
marcam aos poucos uma alternativa na noite lisboeta. E está a crescer.
O local esteve cheio, de habitués e muitas caras novas, tão cheio em determinada altura que nem
dava para dançar. Mas aproveitando umas saidas lá se arranjou espaço. As vespas, essas ficaram à porta.
E desta vez nem se fez muita publicidade, ora se fizesse.
O Bob não pode vir do Porto mas estiveram os habituais representantes de Santarém e pela
segunda vez vez Leiria fez-se presente com uma nova delegação expressamente vinda para a nossa festa.
E do Algarve estiveram para vir até à última.
Estiveram pessoal de bandas (Vicious Five) e ainda a calorosa presença de David Fiddaman e a sua simpática esposa Caroline, ele apenas o criador dos lendários capacetes DAVIDA.
Sem falar do "corpo diplomático" do Mods.pt, Miguel Angelo e Wallbanger.
A estreia do DJ Wickywacky pautou-se por um registo cool e agradável com as pessoas a ambientarem-se
e habituarem-se à sonoridade northern soul. O DJ Cobra (Afonso) repetiu o bom momento da festa anterior,
e fica um especial agradecimento pois soubemos depois que estava doente. O Professor X encerrou a noite
e arrasou com a mistura explosiva de clássicos dos sessentas com new wave, mod revival, pós punk, 90´s...
Momentos sublimes com os The Clash a provocarem um pequeno riot e Harlem Shuffle a provocar um arrepio
no corpo. E durou até tarde.

It is not easy to find a photo of a 1962 TV 175 online. I poked around for a while before I found this USA model for sale on Scooter BBS SPAM forum. My Lambretta is an Italian model, but the exact same year and model. The scoot pictured above was described as a first or second kick and sold for $3,000. That is a GREAT deal. My Lammy was $1,000 and did not include all the parts, which will quickly add up in costs, but it did come with two motors. The nice thing about this Lambretta is no paint is required.

1962 was the tail end of the early Series 3 cowls. I believe it was in 1964 or 1965 that the cowls changed and looked more like the common Li.

TVs have become more sought after because its big brother, the SX200, is very hard to find in old barns and such so collectors now go after the next biggest engine . . . 175cc.

History of Honda

Just ran across this rather indepth (for a blog post) history of Honda Motors. It is interesting to note that Honda had similar beginnings to Vespa, turning surplus wartime motors into a solution to peacetime transportation shortages. Be-ru-tal como diz o Manel. Muita gente. Harlem Shuffle. Scooters e amigos um pouco de todo o lado marcaram presença. Cool for Cats. Stop. As fotos estão a chegar. Stop. Ressaca..daquelas. stop. Mas (Lis)boa mexe! A festa foi mais ou menos assim. Clicka no video...Stop. Dor de cabeça.

About Mr. Hudson & The Library

So in walks Mr Hudson and Dave the dog. The black and tan two-tone Norfolk terrier: "They're normally reds," Mr Hudson points out helpfully. "But Dave is a bit a different" he smiles. A bit different. A quick glance at Dave's handler and it's clear to one and all that Mr Hudson is indeed a bit different.
Splendidly different. And he wouldn't want it any other way. "I don't set out to be different. It's just that I don't want to limit myself to any one style. Any one sound", he states. "Look, I have grown up in a diverse Britain, I have so many influences musically, be it DJ Semtex, MC Sway or Morrissey. What I like to think I have in common with these people is that, like them, I am true to myself." Fitting in and becoming part of the homogenous hordes is not part of the plan. It never has been. Never will be. And it becomes him. "A tale of two cites, apart from being a classic book and a book I love, is a fitting album title because it sums up my life so far." Mr Hudson settles in and orders drinks. "I grew up in Birmingham and I live in London. I have a huge affection for both cities. They've had a big effect on me. I felt I had to acknowledge that with this album." However, Mr Hudson is at pains to say that the world (and other cities) is his oyster. A recent first time trip to New York has left him rejuvenated. "I always want to see what else is out there. There's so much to life, so many places, stuff to see and music to listen to. I want to try and take in as much of it as possible." Tea arrives as Mr Hudson is ready to roll. He is riveting company and when he is in full cry, he is endearingly honest and ever so charming. The trademark panama is removed, revealing neatly cut blond hair. It stands out against his pale skin. The eyes flicker between grey and blue. They are dancing. They are alive. They are full of hope. "I really hope people like this album." The eyes are joined by a smile. "We had fun making this. We really worked at it. Some moments, some songs, just happened and we put them down in a day. Others took a while. But they all turned out the way we wanted. And I'm proud of it."
And so he should be. Mr Hudson and his band The Library have an album that will be revered by all those who listen. He shares the same DNA as the new breed of British artists who have recently been storming the charts. The Streets, Plan B, Sway and even Lily Allen. Young Britons documenting their lives, their generation, in inspired song. "I wanted an album with 12 quality songs. Not one of these 18 or 20 track albums. Every track here means something." Indeed, they are honest songs with soul and substance. All 12 of them are winners. The opening track, 'The Street Where You Live', is a cover of a number from the musical My Fair Lady. "It's the track I always perform when I have had a drink and there's a piano or guitar to hand." A good, personal way to kick things off. The personal moments continue with tracks like 'Brave The Cold' and 'Too Late, Too Late': semi-autobiographical tales that Mr Hudson has set to song. "You know those moments where we find ourselves, bouncing from pub to pub in search of a good time. When you have too many brandies and found yourself in a party looking at a girl from a far. When all you want do is say to her 'excuse, can I walk you home' and you do nothing. That's what I hope I capture in these songs. Moments we can all relate too."

In Mr Hudson’s hands these moments are set to a back drop of an occasional 808 beat, some reggae inspired bass, more than a dash of Caribbean pan, some soulful vibes on piano and guitar and, least we forget, Mr Hudson's vocals – pure and true – carrying the songs home. The band, The Library, was formed just over a year ago when Mr Hudson decided to take his songs on the road. Old time friend and bass player Maps Huxley was the first to come on board with stacks of old-soul records, reciting Biggie and Tupac lyrics (and a similar love of books). They were joined by Torville Jones, a classically trained pianist (recruited on his way to a Stravinsky concert at the Royal Albert Hall) and the indefatigable Wilkie Wilkinson on electric drums.

The most inspired addition came in the form of Joy Joseph, bringing steel-pan and backing vocals to the party. "Joy really does a great job on all the tracks, but in particular on 'One Specific Thing' she adds a presence that really makes the track stand out..." But we mustn't forget 'Picture Of You' which is a band favourite, we love playing it live and it's popular with those who hear it." It's a reflective, gentle, optimistic view in which we find Mr Hudson on the album finale, 'Upon The Heath'. Another personal touch. Here Mr Hudson shares with the listener his favourite view of London. "Up on Hampstead Heath the view from there, and Parliament Hill, of London is breathtaking. So many lives. So many things happening. You have two options. Do you just fade into the background and become a part of the masses or show some get up and go and get involved. Do something with your life," he gently urges. The smile is brighter than ever. And so it should be.

To hell with you if you have a problem with a middle class boy, who studied English Lit at Oxford and who has a fine line in hat wear. It's your problem, not his, if you can't square it with yourself that he also loves hip hop, reggae and soul and devours the arts whenever he gets a spare moment.
Reading the classics, walking on the heath, playing music and being with those he holds dear is what matters. Mr Hudson is in unashamed and unapologetic. It is simply who he is.
For the record, he has also made one of the albums of the year.
